Conclusion: the landscape rewards the prepared and the plural

Three insights from this research deserve emphasis. First, the convergence of baseline capabilities means the old fear of "picking the wrong AI" is largely obsolete: any frontier model handles the fundamentals well, so organizations should optimize for workflow integration, data handling requirements, and ecosystem fit rather than chasing benchmark leaderboards. Second, DeepSeek's $5.6 million training cost and the broader trend of plummeting model costs mean that the economics of AI adoption are shifting faster than most strategic plans assume: budgets allocated today should anticipate dramatically lower per-unit costs within 12-18 months. Third, the single highest-value investment for an insurance organization new to AI is not choosing the right platform: it is developing institutional fluency across multiple platforms so the organization can adapt as the landscape evolves, cross-check outputs for accuracy in regulated contexts, and negotiate from a position of informed optionality rather than dependence.
